Optical fiber winding is a key technology for fiber-optic guidance. When the unevenly winded fiber package encounters the extreme environment, it would cause the internal defects during the process of transport and storage, which eventually goes against the high speed pay-off smoothly.The dissertation applies image processing techniques to study the method of fiber winding uniformity evaluation, which makes the measurement of uniformity objective and accuracy. As we all know the sample standard deviation is a measure of the degree of dispersion of the sample. Based on this idea the dissertation establishes a winding uniformity evaluation model. The image is divided into different regional units. The standard deviation of the common features parameters about all units is taken to characterize the degree of difference among regions. It takes two level evaluation indexes to measure the overall uniformity and the local uniformity of the winding structure. The established image acquisition system is easy to operate which can get the clear and sharp images. The image processing algorithms with MATLAB codes have been studied. The histogram specification to enhance the contrast, the 3D transform-domain collaborative filtering to denoise, and the cross-correlation process have been used to extract the winding structure parameters. The error analysis shows that the feature extraction algorithm has the high accuracy. The effect of the image with different parameters to the detection resolution of winding uniformity has been analysed. Through the local uniformity distribution, it analyses the detailed changes process of winding uniformity have been analysed, which provides reference for the improvement of winding parameter.The image processing algorithm proposed in this dissertation need to be improved in the efficiency of program execution. Meanwhile we should accomplish the interface design and development, and ultimately to achieve the automatic measurement system for the uniformity of fiber winding.
