With the development of high-speed and large-capacity communication, WDM technology has been more widely used. The tunable filter, as a key part of WDM technology, has become the hot research in recent years. In this paper, a new Opto-VLSI-based tunable filter's composed principle and performance are analyzed in the theory and researched in the experiment. The tunable filter uses blazed grating as a spectral component and uses of Opto-VLSI chip to select wavelength, what to produce filtering effect. By selecting different blazed grating, the filter can operate at different wavelengths. So it has a good prospect.According to the design requirements of Opto-VLSI-based tunable filter, this paper researches the relationship between the blazed grating and Opto-VLSI-based tunable filter through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. This paper's specific work is1) The Opto-VLSI-based tunable filter work's principle and formulation are introduced. The principle of the Opto-VlSI chip beam deflection is analyzed.2) Describing several analysis methods of the diffraction gratings. The scalar and vector diffraction theory models of the blazed grating are established. All levels diffraction efficiency of the blazed grating is derived by the scalar approximation method and the rigorous coupled-wave method respectively. The numerical instability in using rigorous coupled-wave method is improved through using the method of enhance transmission matrix.3) In the different polarization, analyzing the relationship between wavelength, the incidence angle, blaze angle and all levels diffraction efficiency.4) According to the analysis of theory, the experimental platform of the Opto-VLSI tunable optical filter is built and using Lab VIEW software Opto-VLSI chip control program is written. For example, it can be achieved the wavelength tuning in the entire C-band (1530nm~1565nm).Figure53, Table1, references40...
