The study is aiming to develop CAD software for dental design and manufacture. It can improve the quality of the prosthesis, lighten work intensity of the dentist, and reduce the time of diagnosis.On the base of the reverse engineering and surveying theory, taking the advantage of measurement equipment and a reverse engineering software, obtained the dental data and preceded them.Based on both dental anatomy and CAD theory, dental features for tooth modeling are summarized, and the feature-based modeling of the standard tooth is established.For global feature curves are proposed based on the information giver by the feature of virtual neighbor teeth. According to these curves and the feature contact areas of neighbor teeth, the global size of absent tooth is obtained. These technology aids the design of denture with high precision.With the development of Surfacer in depth, the whole process of it is obtained, including the application interface based on the Scoll embedded development functions, customized menu and dialog, etc. With the method of software engineering, the master design of fixed prosthesis CAD is brought forward; the fixed prosthesis CAD system is built and developed. This system is especially suitable to dentist and can be used without special knowledge of Surfacer. It can be applied in many types of prosthesis design, which prepares the ground for the prosthesis CAD based on the reverse engineering.
