With the third generation mobile communication technology developed rapidly, streaming media business can be widely used in the wireless network. Scalable video coding technology with its good compression and network abasement, flexible application of network video transmission process, can be well adapt to the dynamic change of network bandwidth. Scalable video coding technology will be applied to wireless streaming media, can give full play to its efficient coding method, because streaming media transmission provides reliable Safeguard.This paper first introduced the background and significance of the research in the thesis, then it made an analysis of the current video coding technology in China and abroad and the developing situation of scalable video coding technology.The thesis made an arrangement in the structural frame of the main content. In the following part, it introduced relevant basic knowledge and the existing problems in streaming media. Compared with the traditional encoding technology, it expounded the characteristics of the H.264 video coding technology and the key technology, which presented its basic system structure, codec workflows, one of the key technologies, including frame prediction model, frame inter-slice prediction model, integer transform and quantization, entropy coding etc.In the third chapter, the paper expounded the core thoughts of scalability video coding technology, namely layered coding. The video sequence can be separated into a base layer, one or several enhancement layer.The base layer can be independently decoded, which can guarantee the most basic video quality.The enhancement layer depended on the base layer, according to the actual need to have the option of decoding.It illustrated the use method and specific test tools of JSVM software platform in simulation experiment.The paper mainly studied the principle of temporal scalability, spatial scalability and quality scalability in the scalability video coding.The specific simulation experiments verified its coding performance. And it gave the analyze of simulation results.Finally, on the basis of the above, the paper made further studies on the encoding principle of coarse grained scalability, fine-grain scalability and medium-grain scalability. And it studied the improved algorithm of FGS, namely Progressive Fine Granular Scalability and FGS coding with Adaptive Reference.It proposed an improved algorithm in MGS for streaming media transmission. Then through the study on the coding performance of simulation experiments, it verified the algorithm can enhance the coding efficiency and had a specific research value.In conclusion, this paper focused on the study of scalable video coding technology in the wireless streaming media.First it studied the encoding frame and principle of research,and gradually expand to specific algorithm.It made an analysis on the coding performance video through the experiment.This paper put forward the improved algorithm, and achieved some valuable achievements.
