Well trajectory is a physical trajectory formed in the process of the direction-oriented drilling, which can be approximated by a continuous and smooth space curve. This trajectory cannot be observed directly, and can only be expressed by a larger number of numerical data obtained indirectly by a logging tool in the drilling process. These raw data are versatile, occupy a host of storage spaces, and are hard to understand. As a consequence, it is difficult to design and implement the well trajectory. In this sense, it is of great significance for direction-oriented drilling that we master essentials of the well trajectory in a direct, comprehensive, correct and timely way.Nowadays, the visualization of well trajectory is mainly realized by bare hands and two dimensional computer graphics. However, it will cost a lot of time and work in this fashion. Furthermore, it cannot exhibit the trajectory intuitively and conveniently. Yet the study of well trajectory using three dimensional techniques is in the primitive state, and the information of well structures cannot be shown in an interactive manner. A lot of foreign software, such as Drilling Office developed by Schlumberger,3D Drill View developed by Landmark, which are capable of illustrating the well trajectory and implement the visualization very well, are expensive and not registered in China. To improve this situation, a new method for visualizing the direction-oriented well trajectory by using three dimensional computer graphics and visualization techniques is proposed in this thesis.Firstly, based on the studies of three dimensional computer graphics and visualization techniques, a set of toolkits suitable for three dimensional rendering of well trajectory are developed for direction-oriented well trajectory by using software engineering, object-oriented analysis and design, data structures, Microsoft Visual C#, etc. The function of displaying three dimensional model of the well trajectory and interactive capabilities are realized in the toolkits as well.In addition, a three dimensional model of well trajectory is established by analyzing and managing the real trajectory data. And the visualization of well trajectory is also realized by using rendering graphics toolkits.Finally, the measured data obtained from No.002-H6 well located in Guangan verifies the results of the toolkits. the methods presented in this thesis can demonstrate the well trajectory more intuitively and more comprehensively, and achieve the results as desired.
