Ontology palys a very important role in the field of information processing. In the past years, ontology and its technology have made tremendous development, taking genetic ontology as a example, genetic ontology has the ability to realize the interoperations between different medical information management systems.It is easy to exchange data among disparate applications. As the semantic web has made rapid prograss, however, heterogeneous ontology is increasingly becoming problematic, traditional constructing method now faces severe challenge.To overcome the problem of heterogeneity for web ontology, we will introduce modularization which had been widely adopted in software engineering into the construction of ontology.The modularization is very important in design, maintenance and integration aspects for the construction of ontology, such as the collaborative development of ontology, different ontology integration. Modular expression is more easier to understand, reason, expansion and reuse. Unfortunately, compared to other subjects such as software engineering, the research of modularization is perfect, but the modular ontology engineering is still lack of an effective, clear concept. For these problems, the article try to research on the method of construction of modular ontology based on distributed description logic, focusing on the formal description of modular ontology and modular ontology reasoning technology.First, we briefly review formalism description language of ontology, analyses the current language of ontology to find their advantages and disadvantages, focus on the grammar feature and semantic feature requirements of the modular ontology. while the current popular modular ontology language, such as DDL, E-connections, P-DL is made detailed comparative study. We select DDL as modular ontology description language and study its syntax, semantics in detail.Second, the framework of modular ontologies were studied. We mainly study the structure of modular ontology, mapping restraint between modules, as well as modular ontology reasoning technology. Based on the above theory, We are trying to study the method of modular ontology construction by DRAGO reasoning algorithm .and combining current existing ontology, The effectiveness of this method was studied, Specifically , this method is verified the effectiveness of the reasoning by the experimental method.Finally, we summarize this paper and discuss topics related to this work , We look to the theoretical research prospect.
