With the progress of human society and development of science and technology, people's demand for positioning and navigation is increasing. Especially in complex indoor environments, such as the office building, mine, underground parking, warehouse, airport hall and so on, the indoor location information of related personnel and valuables need to be identified. But as the limitation of the complexity of the indoor environment conditions, positioning accuracy and positioning time, well-positioning technology is still unable to be used in an encloseure space. Focus of this paper is to design of a low cost, low power consumption, practical wireless indoor localization system.First this paper analysis the research status of indoor localization systems, explain their major problems. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of wireless location technology, select the ZigBee technology for the indoor localization systems.This paper, aiming at ZigBee network, investigates the indoor wireless location techniques and designs a real-time location system for a variety of indoor situations. The system chooses the location algorithm based on RSSI, which is convenient and easy. For the deficiency of this algorithm, we propose the environmental adaptive localization algorithm. Verify the feasibility and reliability of the EAL by Matlab. At the same time, we propose the hybrid postioning method by EAL and location engine. This paper design of a location system, three parts are included. They are hardware platform, software of nodes and PC monitor software. The achievement of every part is clear introduced in this paper. The core of hardware platform is CC2430/CC2431, it includes RF module and auxiliary module. The design of software of nodes is based on Z-Stack of TI and the hybrid location method, the paper introduces the flow of program and the main function of nodes detailly. In Visual C++ 6.0 circumstance, the PC monitor software is compiled, elaborate software solution is proposed in this paper.Finally of the paper, we complete the test of the indoor location system based on ZigBee to go through seting the parameters of nodes and creating the test environment. And analysis the performance of this location system, the results show that this location system is confirmed to be a good one and it is a low cost, low power consumption, easy achieved and high reliability indoor location system. Aim at the shortage which was found during the test, the method to consummate the function is proposed.
