Focusing on the modeling design for more and more sophisticated embedded systems, people has proposed many modeling design toolkits to meet the requirement. But what makes us frustrated is that the toolkits being used today can only provide single MoC(model of computation). They just can only model the embedded system for its partial behavior, do not have the ability to simulate the whole system. So, we urgently need a new model-integration theory and toolkits to realize all the behaviors' simulation of the whole embedded system. The PTOLEMY project studies modeling, simulation, and design of concurrent, real-time, embedded systems. Addressing on many application areas, it has proposed a software framework called PTOLEMYâ…¡which contains many well-defined MoC for their modeling design. Using its hierarchical heterogeneous mixture of MoC theory, PTOLEMYâ…¡can simulate sophisticated embedded system for their all behaviors. Based on PTOLEMY, we analyzed the architecture of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and provided a scheme for its modeling design. After realized the model of WSNs according the scheme, we figured out the guidance meaning of PTOLEMYâ…¡in modeling design of sophisticated embedded systems. The main works are follows:1. Abstracting the different behaviors of WSNs and dividing it into subsystems, we modeled the subsystems in PTOLEMYâ…¡then integrated them into a hierarchical heterogeneous system. 2. We provided a scheme of modeling design for noise generator which can also change its position when running. By the sensor-select algorithm, the noise actor can match the noise event with a particular sensor. And by this mechanism, the system can control the noise in an area.3. The system can simulate different sound environment by embedding a sound actor into the sound sensor. By abstracting the sound behavior and analyzing the noise-level mechanism, we designed a high concurrent model for the sound sensor.4. Taking model time delay as a factor, we provided a new execution strategy for DE, called AOEPTIDES. By AOEPTIDES, events are maintained by actors in their input ports and also scheduled by actors. So, AOEPTIDES realize actor-oriented strategy for event scheduling. Finally, summarize the research work and find out the future need of further study.
