Railway is one of the indispensable transport facilities in human life, and the railway rails detection is a significant precondition to ensure the expedite railway transport. Presently, railway rails detection in our country still depends on artificial detection, which leads to some unsafe factors on railway transport, due to its low precision, time-consuming and power-consuming. Therefore, research on applying sensors to instead of artificial detection, and designing corresponding data transmission system to remote monitor the rail, is significant to improve the railway safety.Based on the characteristics of rail safety performance data, which were detected by the sensors, this thesis proposed a remote wireless data transmission system, by applying GSM short message service and data compression, to remote monitor the rail with low cost and high efficiency. Railway could be totally covered by GSM, due to its wide coverage area, and the practicability of our proposed system could be improved by software programming, which can reduce the communication cost. Field detected data is transmitted to monitor center by this wireless data transport system, consequently, it gets rid of the conventional detecting scheme.Hardware designing of the entire system is made up of data processing and transmitting module and data receiving and monitoring module. LPC3138 ARM microprocessor is employed as the main chip in data processing and transmitting module, to compress the rail data, transmit the data and command which are generated by TC35i GSM message module, and control the transmitted and received of messages. The circuit of this module is structured by LPC2138 and its peripheral circuits, TC35i and its peripheral circuits, manostat circuit, memory interface circuit, and JTAG interface circuit. Based on this hardware platform, designed the flow of the main program, data compressing program and message transmitting and receiving program, and the programming and debugging procedures are completed in ARM IAR development environment. The hardware of data receiving and monitoring module consists of TC35i and PC, Windows XP is applied as the software, C++ is utilized as the programming language, Visual C++ 6.0 and ACCESS 2000 are performed as the foreground development environment and the background development database, respectively. By employing object-oriented, database and serial communication technologies, design PC software that the GSM message module is designed as the wireless communication tool. To achieve memory rail data, checking history curves, abnormal data alert and database management. Finally, rail data remote monitor could be achieved.
