Telemedicine is a cross discipline combined with computer technology and medical technology, it transport and display medical information using computer and communication techniques. Simply put, telemedicine is a comprehensive application of information technology which performs the transmission and processing of medical information in the medical activities. In recent years, the rapid development of computer technology, multimedia technology and internet technology, provides good opportunity for the development of telemedicine. The application of telemedicine mainly include remote consultation, remote operation, remote intensive care, family medical services and so on. Among them, home-based telemedicine application is an important development direction. In our country, due to the expansion of population and the aging problem, the existing social medical resources are becoming increasingly shortage. In this case, remote monitoring and diagnosis for family can alleviate the shortage of medical resources.By the use of telemedicine system, users can make remotely health consultation with doctors in health centre, which can not only make full use of the medical resources, but also provide users great convenience for their health care .This system is designed for older people to monitor the vital signs. Using the system, users can monitor their own vital signal ( such as blood pressure, heart rate, ECG and so on ) at home, without going to the hospital. The system will transmit the data to the physicians of medical center through the network automatically, and dynamic display the data for the doctor to diagnose. This provides great convenience for health monitoring especially to the older people who need health care more frequently than others. In addition, in order to deal with the emergency symptoms when older people is out of home, such as the case of myocardial infarctionm, the system adds emergency alarm function by which the user can alarm through the GPS watch. Support by the server, the watch will send patient information and geographic location in the form of a short message to the emergency number, and at the sametime, a map will be displayed on the doctor ends, marked with the location and travel route. So, the physician can go and rescue in time.This paper describes the analysis, design and implementation work of the system in detail. Among them, the collection, transmission and display step of vital signs data is key part and is involved in several aspects of the technology. First of all, the realization of data communication between the medical equipment and the server is by UDP protocol. Secondly, for the transmission and display of vital signs data, traditional way is useing the transmission of video signal. However, because the system is designed for the daily family health care, it is very sensitive to the cost, so we selection of relatively cheap portable medical device , rather than the surveillance video equipment. In this paper we explored a kind of transmission and display method for vital signs data based on B/S architecture, in which stable data is transmitted between browser and server by server push technology (Comet). What's more, the waveform of ECG is display dynamically by the technology of HTML5 in a plug-in independency browser . So you can discard the traditional display method of video signal, so as to reduce the cost greatly, and make it easier to deploy and promotion.The system is low cost, easy to deploy, and easy to use, making it very suitable to the elderly and sick people who can use it at home. It is a new exploration of telemedicine in family applications.
