Smart antenna technology is one of the main directions of the development of future communication systems. As TD-SCDMA network nationwide in the large-scale construction, smart antenna as one of its key technology, it received extensive attention on its performance in network applications.At present, smart antenna technology has many theoretical research works, including the smart antenna beam-forming algorithm and DOA estimation algorithm, and the research on the combination with joint detection technology etc. But smart antenna in the actual network application received less attention. Wireless communication environment is so complex that the performance of smart antenna in actual network application whether can achieve prospect theory still need to be tested and verified. In this paper, we tested and evaluated the performance of smart antenna in actual network application from the perspective of field test.For dual-polarized smart antenna of network, this paper analyzed the array structure of smart antenna, beam-forming algorithm and wireless test environment in detail, they are the key factors which can influence the performance of smart antenna. Based on the research of the key performance index and evaluation methods of smart antenna, a whole field test plan has been given.For the complex wireless communication environment, this paper conducted test separately in LOS and NLOS environment, and analyzed the performance of smart antenna testing in approximate ideal and the ideal environment, then put forward a field test environment determination method.In the test, this paper put forward key performance indicators testing method of smart antenna. Key performance indicators are beam-forming gain, directional and beam tracking ability. When processing and analyzing test data, we adopted data mining tools and gave qualitative results and evaluation of the smart antenna performance indexes. This has established the solid foundation for the farther development of smart antenna outfield test.Through actual outfield test and the analysis of test data, we conclude that smart antenna basically can reach theoretical expectations and really improve user receiving signal strength, and still have problem with weak ability of anti-multipath interference. Finally, an improved algorithm was proposed on the basis of the qualitative analysis result.
