Experimental teaching plays a significant role in the process of talent training. Itnot only exerts enormous influence on teaching and research, teaching reform andknowledge innovation, but also serves as a bridge for the transformation fromstudents'knowledge to practical ability. Since the traditional approaches toexperimental teaching cannot meet the need of its own development, it is of greattheoretical and practical importance to explore a new way to implement experimentalteaching which combines the experimental means with teaching theories, with view ofsatisfying the practical and developmental demand of experimental teaching,improving the teaching system and advancing the teaching quality.By adopting such measures as documentary analysis and case study, the presentthesis makes an in-depth investigation in the development, theoretical foundation,basic features and other aspects of virtual experimental teaching; based on the randomaccess instruction theory, simulated teaching theory and cognitive teaching theory etal, this study extracts useful elements that can support the virtual experimentalteaching of network engineering design courses and form the characterized virtualexperimental teaching design featuring random access instruction. The study attemptsto stimulate students'interest in study and professional identification throughprojectized, instantiated and characterized experimental teaching. The teachers canmake use of projectized experimental project plan to bridge the gap between academiclearning and practical work, and blend experimental teaching into virtualexperimental teaching environment co-created by the teachers and students. In thisway, the important goals of teaching and learning promoting and enhancing eachother as well as talent cultivation are achieved. At the same time, the uniqueadvantages of virtual experimental teaching in interactivity, openness anddevelopment provide good technological basis; meanwhile simulated teaching theoryand other advanced teaching theories lay a solid foundation for its development. Theintegration of the two aspects can complements each other and promotes thelong-term progress of virtual experimental teaching of network engineering courses.All these efforts aim at pushing forward the scientific development of experimentalteaching itself and establishing a scientific system of the theory.
