Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) provides real-time emergency alarm information and traffic guidanceinformation for drivers, which effectively improve road safety and improve the driving environment. It is of high value in prospects and research. Meanwhile with further research on VANET, a series of security threats have come up. They will lower the efficieny of the network, and could even threaten personal safety. Security and privacy protection issues have become major obstacles to its deployment. There are many security threats in VANET, including spoof indentity, malicious and false data, spy out privacy of others, and attacks on on-board hardares such as sensors and GPS receiver and so on. The paper put forward corresponding solutions from aspects of data integrity, nonrepudiation and privacy protection. This paper proposes Public Key Infrastructure designed for VANET, and chooses ECC as its signature algorithm. According to the features of VANET, validation of both unicast and broadcast packets are considerd. To protect geographical position of vehicles from unauthenticated entities, the paper introduces huge anonymous certificate and group signature as optional solutions, and makes a comparison of them two.Putting vehicles into groups brings lots of advantages. This paper puts forward a series of group management protocols, including Group Formation Protocol, Group Join Protocol and Group Leave Protocol. The group leader is regarded as agency for their anonymous access to location-based services. We discussvalidation of unicast and broadcast packets, security communication in groups and privacy protection, and put forward an effective security framework based on groups. It also elaborates the framework from aspects of content, communication model, process of data validation and security services. An experiment is designed for demonstrating the feasibility of the framework..
