Along with the evolution of molecular biology and clinical research, requirement for sample to research is getting higher and higher. So how to gain more samples with high quality turns to be a challenge of lots of researchers. With the continuous improvements of cold preservation and sample production technology, to preserve mass activated tissue in the long term becomes possible. At the same time, with today's rapid development of information technology, the information system which coordinates with tissue bank management is getting into increasingly important. Tissue bank management system is emerged due to this background.Tissue Bank is also called as Tissue Base. This paper firstly analyzes the current application situation from tissue management phase, internationally and domestically, and the research achievements during the application; specifies the difference in tissue management between domestic and abroad, and the necessity and urgency of developing management system for hospital's tissue information.Then after surveying some Shanghai hospital's tissue management process, we analyze all the collected information, and identify the common features in all hospitals. Also we refer to some current specifications, and design a series of basic function process, including refrigerator visual management, information management of patients and samples, bar code print, sample stock in & out, temperature monitoring, data synchronism etc. Based on this, the general function of sample information management system is specified, and the use case model is established.According to the requirement, the paper designs structurally the hospital's tissue information management system. This system divides into temperature monitoring subsystem, bar code print subsystem, data synchronism subsystem, authority manage and business subsystem which is the core of the system and further separates into user management module, patient information management module, sample information management module, virtual container management module, questionnaire management module and system configuration module. It adopts the classic model view controller (MVC) structure, which is consisted by tissue bank substation in all hospitals and tissue bank master station in telecom server room. At ordinary times, hospitals apply the inner tissue bank to collect and manage their data, while tissue bank master station to collect data from all hospital to share. Meanwhile, the database design of this system models with entity relationship diagram (ERD).This paper takes temperature monitoring subsystem and bar code print subsystem as example, and describes minutely the whole procedure that the system from design to realization. With object oriented technology, all sequence diagrams are designed. The system is implemented by using Web start technology, Lucene technology, Web Services technology, Ajax technology, Data synchronism technology, jQuery and SSH framework. At last, functional test and performance test are taken, and test data is analyzed in detail, which includes test coverage, defects per unit, response time and throughput per hour and so on. The result indicates that system is stable and reliable. Nowadays, this system is used in several hospitals in Shanghai. It works well, and it not only manages the ordinary tissue information collection, but also improves the efficiency and capability of hospital's tissue management.
