With the continuous progress of human society, the demand of energy is growing. Thus, the pressure on energy resources is increasing. The building energy consumption is becoming the third major growth point of energy consumption in China except industrial and transport, and even growing at a fast pace. To carry out a national building energy technology research and application has been pressing. But before that we must understand architectural energy consumption status and future trends. Building energy monitoring system is such a software and hardware systems that can help us to do on-line monitoring of building energy consumption and dynamic analysis.In this paper, the subject of the background, purpose of building energy consumption monitoring in home and abroad were introduced and then gave the concept of building energy monitoring system. In this paper, detailed analysis and presentations of concepts and principles on some key technologies that the system used were all carried out. A brief introduction of the ZigBee technology, analysis of ZigBee technology advantages, a brief analysis of ZigBee network topology, communication, and ZigBee nodes; Gave a simple analysis about data exchange and data integration techniques based on XML, analysis the mapping between XML and relational databases, gives the overall framework for data exchange based XML format. In this paper, the energy data collection objects and collection targets, data collection methods, data processing methods, data display were all analyzed. Based on it, a design of Energy-consuming Supervision System of Buildings was given. This design contains logical structure, functional structure, the database structure, functional requirements on data transmission and data acquisition devices, functional structure of central software platform and so on. The problems in the research were stated and the research prospect was illustrated at the end.
