With the development of grid transmission system, the distance between the transformer substations has become longer than ever before. Optical communication network affiliated on grid transmission is also faced with the challenge of long-distance transmission. The design of optical communication affiliated on grid transmission is quite different from the others, for the options for the location of repeater station are very rare. It is a compelling problem for engineers to construct high-quality optical communication system with ultra-long span.Optimization software for ultra-long span remote-pumped optical transmission is a computer-aided tool for the design of ultra-long span optical transmission. It could optimize the construction of optical transmission automatically, and propose the best scheme for system configuration to obtain the optimal communication quality. It could also predict the system performance according to the different configuration scheme. The employment of this software promotes the efficiency of design.In this paper, we discussed the design and implement of optimization software. Firstly, we analyzed the operating principles of remote-pumped optical transmission, and built mathematical models for simulation based on them. We also analyzed system configuration's influence on communication quality, and proposed algorithms for the optimization of system configuration based on that analysis. Then, we introduced how to solve mathematical models and realize optimization algorithms with the method of numerical analysis. We also introduced how to implement numerical analysis with Matlab programming. In the next part, we designed an explicit flow chart to direct the programming. After that, we explain the steps that need to be done to arrange the interface and accomplish the software packing. In the last part of this paper, we presented the functions of this software, and made a detailed instruction for the use of this software.
