In the background of fast‐growing Internet, file storage services have been welcomed by the internet users and businesses, because of the features of easy sharing, convenience and low cost. However, with the rapid development of internet, the file storage service is currently facing the challenges from both high concurrent access request and data high‐speed growth. At the same time, we find that there are many abundant free heterogeneous storage resources in our Internet.In this paper, by studying a variety of typical distributed storage system architecture and the key technologies of widely used in many applications, and giving full consideration to the challenges of current internet environment, according to the characteristics of the file storage service system, we present a storage resources description language(SRDL) which is based on XML. By adopting the system architecture concept in distributed systems and the key technologies, we can easily design the architecture of the file storage service system.By using the SRDL we can set up the communication channel between the users and providers of heterogeneous storage resources. We use storage resources as the unit, and then use a standardized approach to manage heterogeneous storage resources, so we have realized the manageability of storage resources. With the distributed system architecture, we improve the manageability and scalability of the original file storage system. With the load balance technology and message queue, we improve the system performance. Then with these solutions we have designed a file storage service system which named Ustor, and we introduce the architecture and core modules in detailAt last we have proved that the system has superior performance and scalable by comparing the performance with a original. And the system is suitable for the today's Internet environment.
