Pulsed power technology is an emerging technology which is developed in the 20th century, 60 years. it is a combination of many interdisciplinary. Since 1976, the first in the United States held the IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference, pulsed power technology has been booming. All advanced industrial countries have opened a pulsed power technology development and application of research. The switch in pulsed power technology as key components in a direct impact on its performance and to restrict the development of pulsed power technology. Thyristor due to its high pressure, flow capacity, triggering stability, small volume in pulsed power technology has been widely used.Thyristor in the application of pulsed power supply of technical problems need to be addressed are: high voltage, high inrush current, the thyristor is able to secure work. This requires to solve two problems: 1. Overvoltage damage issues (SCR protection circuit problem), 2. Inrush current damage (SCR junction temperature calculation).This paper addresses the following two aspects:(1) Series thyristor protection circuits work. Theoretical analysis to determine the static protection parameters, the theoretical analysis, based on the thyristor opening pressure and dynamic voltage through the study. By opening with the turn-off thyristor voltage of the mechanism analysis, the parameters of dynamic protection circuit design, test by test.(2) For high-current thyristors, after the adoption of the mechanism of the damage found in SCR applications in pulse power, mostly thermal damage (ie damage was due to the thyristor junction temperature rise over a point high, resulting in the current density is too large, and ultimately burned thyristor). Instantaneous junction temperature of thyristors were calculated, and calculated through the experiments to verify the correctness.
