The Fused Deposition Modeling technology can convert rapid prototype to a variety of moulds through various conversion techniques, which substantially shorten the product replacement cycle. In terms of FDM rapid prototyping technology, this paper proposes an embedded, modular and networked control system based on ARM controller.To meet the design requirement for the process of fused deposition modeling, a multi-module control platform based on STM32 chip was designed, it includes four main control modules, such as the master module, the motor control module,the temperature control module and the plastic-pushing modules. At the same time, a communication network based on CAN bus was introduced in this paper. The details of this control system are as follows:Firstly, a file system based on memory card was designed, it provides an access to standards-based NC code processing and creats conditions for the replacement of IPC.Secondly, the hardware and software design of four modules was introduced. The master module includes the establishment of human-machine interface, the storage and retrieval of the file system. The motion control module can generate three-way corresponding frequency pulse signal according to the instruction. Furthermore, to ensure the motion scanning accuracy, an encoder feedback loop was added. The temperature control module mainly contains the temperature measurement based on thermocouple, and the processing of signal by means of the amplifier circuit and the south filtering. The wire module controls the positive and negative rotation of two-phase stepper motor to achieve wire and snag.Lastly, CAN bus communication network was established to realize the data communication between various modules, while the data network protocols of this system was also developed to ensure the data integrity during the transmission.
