With the rapid development of logistics industry and continuous application of information technology in the logistics field, improvement on the fast and efficient management of the mass of information, which promotes the efficiency of logistics operations, is an important direction of development of logistics enterprises. Ontology application in the logistics industry can be considered as the system of information integration and sharing. Therefore, how to apply domain ontology in the logistics business with effective and accurate maintenance is the focus of this research.Nowadays , the attempt of applications of domain ontology in logistics industry has been started by scholars. The ontology attempted by scholars, however, is not an ideal result due to the relatively narrow application, difficult maintenance and reuse. Design and Implementation of the Logistics Ontology Management System, which the article proposes will describe semantic service warehouse subsystem which is the key module of"Scalable Platform for the Integration Of Production and Logistics Operations". Also, it will investigate application of ontology in logistics and maintenance of operations in need. The main work and contributions of design and implementation are as follows:Firstly, based on ontology technology, knowledge and logistics industry, the article will demonstrate the process on the establishment of the ontology library with the core logistics business concepts and knowledge, appropriate classification of the goods and semantic package of association.Secondly, under the guidance of transportation knowledge of the existing logistics, the article will report that the logistics ontology is loaded with the specific association rules of logistics services including the definition of delivery recommendation and conflict detection.Thirdly, the article will illustrate the effect of ontology in logistics business systems through recommendation of the logistics delivery type. Also, according to the transport requirement of the customer, the article will recommend the ideal transport service with analysis of properties and types of the cargo as well as the association with the definition of ontology library.Finally, due to increasing information adjunction requirement during the logistics platform system in operation, the article will introduce some methods, which are the ontology recommendation and conflict detection, to help system users to maintain a ontology library in visualization, even though the non-professionals.Through effective management and maintenance of logistics ontology via the Logistics Ontology Management System , the tedious manual selection of logistics service, the business operating costs, and the adverse effects caused by human errors can be reduced dramatically.
