Now, computer system monitoring has developed into an important research direction. High-end fault-tolerant computer has complex structure of hardware, running huge operating system and provides number of services. Both in its assessment and measurement, or the daily management and maintenance, the department of monitoring systems are essential.This paper designed and developed a monitoring system for the high-end fault-tolerant computer. This system is implemented as a remote monitoring architecture, using both software methods and hardware methods. According to the layer of the indicators, this paper designed three monitoring tools to achieve high-end fault-tolerant computer application layer, system layer and hardware components kernel layer monitoring. Performance monitoring tool obtain performance data based on kernel data structures, monitoring the system CPU, memory, network, disk, system processes and other key application performance indicators. Kernel probing tool can dynamic detect system kernel behavior based on kernel debugging techniques. This tool can capture detailed system kernel execution details of system behavior to achieve the tracking and reconstruction. Hardware monitoring tool takes advantage of Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) to achieve monitoring the underlying hardware of high-end fault-tolerant computer.Finally, this paper verified the effectiveness of the system monitoring platform by experimental testing. All the monitoring tools of the system monitoring platform can monitor the designed monitoring indicators. The monitoring system played an important role during assessment and measurement of the high-end fault-tolerant computer.
