Hydraulic elevators are widely used in vertical transports of middle and low structures. Relative to traction elevator the hydraulic elevator has lots of advantages, such as steady running process, comfortable riding, larger loads, and low requirements to the structure. They have developed rapidly abroad and there is a huge potential market domestic. The hydraulic elevator is a typical mechanical-electrical-hydraulic system with variable loads, cavities and viscosities, and it is difficult to build a mathematical model used in actual controlling by analytical method. Recently, Simscape, the simulation software which can be used in multiple physical fields has been published by the Mathworks. Using Simcape a complex nonlinear model can be built just by connecting different module, and any improvement of the system can be realized just by adding or subtracting some module and the advantages of the Simscape in researching of the hydraulic elevator stands out.Firstly, according to the problems of poor controlling performances of the running velocity as well as the long starting time of the hydraulic elevator, the basic working principle of hydraulic elevator as well as the velocity controlling system was elaborated briefly. And MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape was used in modeling the velocity controlling system of hydraulic elevator in details. And optimization analysis of the velocity controlling system were carried out by the common algorithms, such as increment PID algorithm, self-turning parameters optimizing PID algorithm and neural network algorithm, which lay a foundation for the introduce of the improved algorithms. Finally, a genetic algorithm PID and a particle swarm optimization PID algorithms were put forward. The principle and the flowchart of the two algorithms were introduced in details, and the velocity controlling system of the hydraulic elevator system was optimized with the two algorithms respectively. The results indicate that the two algorithms have obvious advantages over the common PID algorithms.
