Highway is the communication between the various regions. However, due to harsh climatic conditions, vehicle overloading and other serious problems, the asphalt pavement maybe have some early damage when it used a few years. So the asphalt pavement performance monitoring system is studied for experiment to establish a long-term, effective testing monitoring system. We can extract some performance indicators of the asphalt pavement by using FBG sensor when the asphalt pavement is loaded. So some early warning of damage to asphalt pavement can be found. The work for this article is as follows:1 The basic structure and working principle of FBG is stated; the strain sensor model and the temperature sensor model of FBG is also studied; introducing several programs for strain and temperature simultaneously measured by FBG; then the network of FBG sensor, some common multiplexing and their respective characteristics is summarized in this paper.2 The package technology of FBG is summarized, such as the protective packaging, sensitization or desensitization packaging. On this basis, the package method for FBG stress sensor is put forward and experimented. Furthermore, another package method for FBG pressure sensor using in asphalt pavement load monitoring is also put forward, theoretically calculate the sensitivity of the sensor, and analysis the sensor using finite element method. Some experiment was studied to learn pressure characteristics, temperature characteristics, strain characteristics of the sensor.3 Process of embedded technology is studied. There are some problems during the process of embedding sensors in the asphalt blocks, and the discussed was put forward. In order to achieve temperature compensation, a temperature sensor was designed and experimented. Do static and dynamic load experiment of asphalt blocks with embedded sensors. Meanwhile, also do experiment with FRP sensor for comparing.4 Finally, the development of the monitoring system graphical user interface for static and dynamic load were done with matlab and the VC++.
