Wireless sensor network is a new the formation of information collection and processing technology that integrated sensor technology, embedded technology and wireless network communication technology, it has very broad application prospects. It is the height of the emerging cross-cutting-edge multidisciplinary research focus by the international experts in the current study, Wireless sensor networks based on ZigBee technology in general by a large number of low-cost networks of micro-ZigBee sensor nodes. Therefore, on the limited resource conditions, the harsh environmental conditions how to achieve sustainable and efficient large-scale network communications for the ZigBee network routing protocols raise new challenges.IEEE 802.15.4 standard is designed to provide an efficient, reliable and cost-effective wireless networks for low power, low-rate communications. ZigBee protocol uses the physical layer and media access control layer of IEEE802.15.4 standard,combined with the network layer, application support and security sub-layer module, achieved a self-organizing wireless network coverage. Highly efficient energy-saving advantages of ZigBee wireless sensor networks in industrial control, intelligent home and other fields have great potential. This paper analyzes the characteristics of ZigBee networks, the architecture of ZigBee networks and related applications. Around the ZigBee protocol and ant colony optimization algorithm to propose energy management and ant colony optimization based on the ZigBee routing protocol improved algorithm to achieve the purpose of that improve the overall performance of the ZigBee network. We conducted a ZigBee network and routing simulation process. Simulation results show that the method can improve network performance and effectively reduce the nodes energy consumption.In addition, the project also for the ZigBee network in its own limited resources and under poor conditions in which the basic routing algorithm for fault-tolerant low, we present an improved Ant Colony Optimization for ZigBee-based fault-tolerant routing algorithm. It uses an approach based on ant colony optimization to achieve the credibility of the control route selection, balanced contradiction between the energy and fault-tolerant node, ensure the energy cost and improves network fault tolerance. Our algorithm is the simulation platform based on NS2 network. Simulation results show that this method can significantly improve the network fault tolerance. Finally, the project design in the ARM platform to implement a simple protocol based on ZigBee Smart Home System, and transplant the routing protocol of improved by ant colony optimization. We use the system to the home environment for data collection functional test and performance analysis to verify the feasibility of improving ZigBee routing protocol.
