An Application Research Of Data Mining Used In College Teaching Quality Evaluation System

With the development of the information technology (IT), informatization constructionbecomes an essential requirement on higher education modernization gradually. Nowadays,teaching administrative management information system (TAMIS) based on network iswidespread used in universities all over the world. It improved the innovation of highereducation management system, and also improved the management level of teachingadministrative department. Based on the TAMIS platform, many universities created onlineteaching quality evaluation system (TQES), and they already accumulated large amounts ofdata in the system. Analyzing the data in the TQES and its ralated systems, the teachingmanager may get some interesting internal relations, in order to provide some support ondecisionmaking about how to enhancing the teaching quality. That's what the teachingmanagers expected.Firstly, the thesis introduced the data mining principle and technology, and researchedthe basic procedure and typical algorithms of data mining. Secondly, based on data mining,the thesis designed and implemented a university teaching quality evaluation system, and putthe system into use in teaching quality monitoring system of the NCEPU, from which gotlarge amounts of evaluation data. Thirdly, it built up a data warehouse after preprocessing thedata collected from the databases of the TQES, the teaching management information systemand the TAMIS. Then, it designed and implemented the data mining model of the TQES usingAssociation Rules algorithm, and found some association rules after mining the data in thedata warehouse. Finally, with the analysis of the rules, the thesis got some factors that affectthe result of teaching quality evaluation, such as teacher's age and title, the number ofstudents in a classroom and the course's characteristic, etc. Analyzing the factors, the thesisproposed some references to enhance the teaching quality. Such as encouraging teachers toimprove their level of expertise, or engaging the high levels of parttimeteachers.
