In the current society, there is an increasing requirement on the mobility of internet, whereas the present internet structure is designed for fixed network, which therefore brings the problem of IP semantic overloading. The so-called IP address semantic overloading means that: the transport layer takes IP address as the identifier of nodes using for building linkage, while the network layer takes IP address as the locator of nodes using for route addressing. Hence, to solve the problem of IP address semantic overloading, the key rests with the separation of identifier and locator.Presently there are mainly two ways to realize the separation of identity identifier and location identifier. They are based on address rewrite mechanism of server and Map-and-Encapsulate mechanism of network respective. Under these two mechanisms, there are three mainstreaming identifier separation protocols which are HIP (Host Identity Protocol) built on Addressing Rewriting, SHIM6 (Multihoming Shim Protocol for IPv6) and LISP (Locator/Identifier Separation Protocol) based on Map-and-Encapsulate.Based on above protocols, this paper advanced a new protocol—Identifier Separation Protocol based on IPv6 address. By referring to the frames of HIP and LISP, this protocol introduces host identifier layer to realize complete separation of identifier and locator. The undistributed IPv6 address is taken as the host identifier, by adding address comparison mechanism, it is then possible to identify if the communication ports have deployed new identifier separation protocol, based on which the following communication flow can be determined. IDS (Identity mapping Server) is adopted to replace DNS, achieving mapping of IPS (IP mapping Server) from HID. IPS is used to realize mapping of locator IP from HID. Moreover, based on ISP6 protocol, some handover technologies are studied, in combination with the trigger mechanism in link layer, proactive handover is realized, which therefore conduces to reduction of time delay of handover. By employing route buffer cache forward technology, the packet drop rate in the handover process is reduced. Finally a contrast analysis of the performance of ISP6 in handover is conducted by comparing with MIPv6 (Mobile IPv6), HIP and LISP.
