With regard to the specific feature of WSN, improving energy-efficiency and scalability are the major goals of MAC protocol design in WSN. S-MAC protocol is a typical contention-based MAC Protocol. It has good energy-saving features and extended, but also has some deficiencies. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme with dynamic adjustment duty cycle based on S-MAC protocol. In the case of sudden traffic load, it can adjust the duty cycle according to the packet arrival rate and processing rate. Analysis and simulation results show that the improved protocol, by adapting with sudden traffic load, reduces the delay and increases the throughput. We propose a novel model for dynamic wireless sensor network infrastructures. We also analyzed the comparison results of the degree distribution, average path length, clustering coefficient and network congestion which are typical topology property parameters. Compared with simulation results in other relative model, it show that proposed novel model is considerably practicable and precise.
