Research On Cyber-languages From Communication Perspective

Cyber-languages refer to those languages used by people in their communication via the Internet including the traditional languages accepted due to customs as well as the newly-formed languages with the especial Internet spreading mechanism. Also, they include the altering and extending of traditional language significance in the Internet environment. The research here on cyber-languages from communication perspective mainly refers to the latter two aspects.Different from the net language researches in the former linguistic scope which mainly focus on symbol formation, rhetorical features and language styles, this research will be carried out from communication perspective and take the formation, use and spreading effects of cyber-languages as research objects, trying to break through the traditional static limitation and illustrate the especial language use phenomenon from communication perspective, that is, the research combined with spreading subjects(cyber citizens), spreading environment, spreading mind as well as mass culture, etc.The results of the research are as follows:in view of the spreading environment of cyber-languages, the fast development of the Internet, the formation of cyber space, together with the appearance and popularization of Web2.0 make the language a living tool as well as living condition; net spreading has become the third interpersonal skill besides oral and written spreading; cyber-language interacts with traditional culture and form great influence; the transformation of net social structure forms the new mass spreading way and hereafter influences the appearance and development of cyber-languages. The subjects of net spreading show the nationalized characteristics in the scale, the younger characteristics in the identity, the simple, relaxing, entertaining and self-displaying characteristics in the mind and behaviors, the integrated characteristics concerning human and computer, ancient and modern times, as well as home and abroad, and contingency together with popularity in language spreading. The means of cyber-languages is to make full use of the elements including English, characters, phonetic transcription and symbols to develop and update the meanings and definitions of traditional languages through re-construction, transformation, significance reassignment and spreading multiplication so as to adapt the subjective and objective requirements of net spreading.This research argues that cyber-languages exert profound influences on various fields and styles of social spreading, which could be divided into two aspects. On one hand, it has positive influences. Cyber-languages reflect people's aesthetic appreciation, spiritual condition and mental feature in the net era as well as the material and spiritual production and exert people's creative ability of languages which could promote the language development and is the important motivation and way to enrich languages. On the other hand, it has negative influences concerning the anomie in terms of regulations and contents of Chinese use as well as the popularizing and overflowing of foul languages. Hence, we hold that we should not only treat cyber-languages in tolerant, calm, positive and optimistic attitudes, promote dynamic notions and set up multi-criteria but also enhance the regulation of cyber-languages, strengthen the search and arrangements, and pay heed to the researches on cyber-languages.
