The Computer Center the author works in undertakes the teaching task of "Basic Course to Computer Science", a compulsory course for college students of non-computer specialty. As a dependable measure, testing plays a significant role in the whole teaching practice. The traditional testing mode consists of the procedures of the teachers' testing paper assignment, correction, assessment and analysis as well as the students' attending of the exam, each of which actually requires painstaking effort. For instance, in the college the author works in there are annually more than 5,000 students enrolled in the test of "Basic Course to Computer Science", which is indeed a heavy workload for the teachers. And meanwhile, after the examination the students are eager to be aware of their testing result, which to some extent overloads the teachers of paper correction and assessment. In order to provide an efficient, convenient and relaxed testing environment for both students and teachers as well as to hold paperless examination, this present paper tries to develop an online testing system based on the C# and SQL Server 2000. By setting the parameters of the exam, the system administrators can provide students an online test with the automatic paper correction and result presentation. In a test for "Basic Course to Computer Science", there are many objective and subjective questions with distinctive ways of assessing. For the former, the system will compare the users' answers with the referential ones in the database and then present the rightness and wrongness for each question, while for the latter, the system will adopt a quite complex method to make the judge. For example, for the subjective task of Office operation, the system will apply the technical of VBA to mark the operations of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint automatically. The present paper mainly focuses on the functions and their realizations of a testing system. With the modeling analysis of UML, the author discusses the approaches of marking and assessing Office Operations questions in detail, and then presents some limitations to the system with some suggestions on further research and improvements.
