Smart antenna system combines multiple antenna elements with signal processing capability to optimize radiation and/or reception pattern automatically according to the signal environment. Based on some concrete engineering project, a smart antenna system on a chip (SOC) is realized in the dissertation, only based on the FPGA chip and not on the FPGA+DSP system construction. So the hardware cost and the scale are decreased greatly. The main research contents of the dissertation can be seen as follows:1. The smart antenna SOC's overall construction is introduced firstly, including signal processing flow and also hardware construction.2. The serial interface module's basic principle is introduced in detailed, and carries on the elaboration which include the theory and FPGA realization of two aspects, the asynchronous connection and the synchronized connection.3. Several digital orthogonal interpolation methods are analyzed theoretically, and the low distortion narrowband filter's design principle is given then the confirmation through the Matlab simulation and the FPGA hardware experiment are carried on.4. Covariance matrix inverse algorithm modules are introduced mainly, realized in the FPGA chip and not DSP chip. Mainly from the basic design principles, module of top-down dividing, clock domain analysis, the internal structure of sub-module as well as other matters needing attention in setting up the description, and in setting up the hardware platform introduced the realization process of each module, finally the confirmation through the hardware simulation is given.The project design and hardware building/debugging, can be shown that the smart antenna soc based on the FPGA is feasible, and also can be applicated for future producting.
