There's a wave of women's liberation movement since the second half of the nineteenth century, ithas been committed to make women out of the house, to enable women to obtain their social status andrights to achieve gender equality in all aspects of political, economic, cultural, social and family. But inrecent years, there comes a voice that insist women should go home in Chinese society. They concernabout the women's choice on the value, but has ignored the conditions of women who went home andbecame housewives, we actually know little about housewives.The study reviews the housewife experience with six housewives from Zhengzhou, taking aqualitative approach. The paper focuses on the their life story after being a housewife, shows thedivision of labor, the family power,the female right and the subject feelings of housewives during thecourse dynamically. The author analyzes the reason of being housewife and their attitudes, the way theymake a decision on family and personal affairs, the solution of coordination and conflicts or disputes infamily decision-making, as well as their concept of gender demonstrated in all these things. The studyconcludes on the family status of housewives from a gender perspective, finds that the power ofhousewives is low and passive, however they have to pay more and assume more, yet their subjectivityhas been disregarded. The study also obtains results that housewife is at the disadvantage on familystatus, compared to their husbands. There are many reasons of this situation, such as the vnlnerableresources of housewife, the constraints of cultural norms, and the resurgence of traditional genderstereotypes. At the last, the author thought and discussed on the problems reflected in the theme. Thestudy aims to show the power level and source of housewives on daily affairs, on major affairs and onpersonal affairs through a description of their family life experience, to show gender interaction andgender relations from the micro-level through the process of family decision-making., to present thefamily status of housewives comprehensive through the subjective feelings of the housewife, to makeup for the lack of previous studies which simply explored the status of women from the perspective ofresource theory. The author hopes that this study could arouse concern on housewives, for this particulargroup needs attention, also to provide a reference for selection and development of the womenthemselves.
