Comparative Study Of Primary English Textbooks Of Edition PEP And New Standard

Ministry of education issued Basic Education Curriculum Reform (Trial) in2001;it symbolized the start of new basic education reform. The highlight of this reform wasthe substitution of curriculum for primary syllabus, and it truly ushered in thediversification of the textbooks. Simultaneously Basic Education Curriculum Reform(Trial) stipulates that English course will be opened from elementary school in autumnin2001and the initial year is generally the third grade, but every place can fix the planof opening English course according to the reality. Based on The Primary EnglishCourse Standard, publishing institutions published more than thirty kinds of primaryEnglish textbooks in succession; among them there are sixteen kinds whose initial yearis the third grade. The quality of these primary English textbooks is not equal, so thesystematic comparative study of these primary English textbooks is indispensable toimproving the quality of primary English textbooks and teaching. This paper makes acomparative study of the two primary English textbooks---PEP and NEW STANDARD;its achievements will enrich the theory of textbooks study, and has the practicalsignificance of improving the quality of primary English textbooks and teaching. Thispaper is divided into four parts:The first chapter is the introduction. It introduces the reason of topic choosing,analyzes the significance and status quo of the study, and elaborates the study objective,steps and methods.The second chapter is criteria of comparison of primary English textbooks and itsaccordance. The criteria are from the composition of textbook and Primary EnglishCurriculum Standards.The third chapter is the comparison of PEP and NEW STANDARD ENGLISH. Itcompares the two primary English textbooks in terms of compilation idea, content choosing, presentation and weaving level, and then analyzes the similarities anddifferences of them.The forth chapter is the suggestion. It makes some suggestions about thecompilation of the two primary English textbooks for each criterion, and then makesgeneral suggestions about the compilation of primary English textbooks.
