People pay more attention to the motivation of the senior high school students as the development ofthe psychology. As the learning motivation is one of the most important factors which affect the Englishlearning, the new curriculum reform pay much attention to the development of the students' active learningattitude. Although there are some researches about the motivation of the senior high school students athome, the New Curriculum Standards had been published and the qualities of the students are different asthe time goes by. Therefore, the question that know the motivation of the nowadays' students is quitediscussable.The author made some investigations about the motivation of senior high school and put forwardbetter teaching strategies which combined the conditions of the motivation. This thesis made an attempt toanswer the following questions with the purpose of searching the place of the motivation of the senior highschool:1. What main motivations in English as a foreign language (EFL) do the senior high school studentshave in the Affiliated High School of Henan Normal University (HNU)?2. What are the differences in EFL motivation between high and low achievers?3. What measures can senior high school teachers adopt to enhance the students' intrinsic motivation?This paper was based on a questionnaire during the students of the Affiliated High School of HNU.And the author took the way of interview and classroom observation. The writer chose the students as theobject of the study randomly. The students were from an Olympic class (the major work class) and aregular class. The writer researched the English learning motivation of the100students and proposed thesuggestion that the students should realized the importance of the English learning motivation from thepoint of view of themselves. The students are lack of the power of possessiveness and perseverance, whichis decided by the age group that they belong to. And there are some students who are not confident enoughloss the learning interests. These lead to the decrease of the scores. Taking these elements into account, theEnglish teachers are required to realize the students' characteristic and should foster the students' power ofself control and perseverance. The teachers should inspire the students who are diffident in extensive aspects. Furthermore, the parents are required to do the coordinated work and should give the appropriateencouragement after school. The students could turn the external motivation into the intrinsic motivation ifall the aspects have been done perfect. In this way, the students' learning interests can be improved and thelearning motivation also can be enhanced gradually. At last, the students' academic records must bedeveloped by a wide margin.
