The International Education Committee of the 21st Century-points out that talent cultivation should be focused on developing students'cognitive competence, students' abilities to deal with daily life affairs, to work cooperatively and to survive in the world. Nowadays, the idea of lifelong learning has been accepted by the world. How to learn is the foundation of lifelong learning. All the countries in the world have viewed it as one of the most important ingredients of education reformThe cornerstones for maths teaching cited from the New Curriculum Standards for Maths Teaching in Senior High School (Experimental) (hereinafter called the New Curriculum Standards) are illustrated as follows. It is inefficient for students to learn maths simply by imitation and memorization and priorities should be given to students'practice, independent exploration and communications among themselves. In other words, maths teaching is not a process of teachers' instilling knowledge into students but a process of helping them construct their cognitive structure by stimulating them to learn to observe, operate, reflect on what is taught and find laws. Only in this way can the goals put forward in the New Curriculum Standards be realized.Factually, shifts in approaches to teach and learn mean changes in education values, outlook on talents and education modes. One-way teaching and passive learning are out of date, while focus of reform in education is placed on how to stimulate students to learn independently and cooperatively. It meets the requirements of the times to explore the new teaching mode in accord with characteristics of the autonomous learning in high school. With comprehensive analyses of the settings of the current social reform, pre-requisites of the new curriculum reform and the characteristics of autonomous learning of senior high school students, the thesis puts forward a new teaching approach---Autonomous Instructional Mode of Four Guidances and One Evaluation System, grounded on the existing research results in this field and theories of modern psychology, learning and education, with the aim to change students' conventional learning behavior and consequently improve students'efficiency in maths learning and teaching.Based on theories of humanism, constructionism, multi-evaluation and reflective learning, Four Guidances and One Evaluation System is characterized by students' autonomous learning, exploration, presentation, teacher's evaluation and students'reflection, comprised of five sections:learning guide, practice guide, discussion guide, question guide and the assessment. Learning guide and practice guide are designed to urge students to learn independently and autonomously; discussion guide and question guide are designed to stimulate students to explore cooperatively; the assessment is designed to prompt students to rethink and modulate by themselves.By applying methods of documents study, experimental method, questionnaires, this thesis conducts a brief introduction of the new teaching mode--Autonomous Instructional Mode of Four Guidances and One Evaluation System, mainly focusing on the introduction of the theories on which it is based, its basic structure, teaching sections and strategies. Furthermore, its applications and superiorities over the traditional modes are presented and compared and a conclusion is reached in the thesis that this mode is more practical and applicable, enriching autonomous learning theories to some extent. The research on the new teaching mode has provided a teaching framework which is easy to operate for autonomous learning's teaching mode. At the same time, it has been able to play an active part in enriching and promoting the development of relevant theories.Of course, how will the new teaching mode be popularized in different schools with students of different learning levels? How will we permeate and merge the new teaching mode in other subjects? How will it spread in a larger scale and in a wider space? There are still a lot for us to think deeply and do more research.
