The mind map is the expression of divergent thinking. It is also an effective tool in learning and thingking . The mind map contains diagrams, key words, branches and colors, forms divergent thinking and node structures, stimulates brains'potential, and enhances effectiveness of thinking and learning. The mind map is appliesd in many fields such as economy, management and education.Since it was introduced into China,the mind map has many applications in education, especailly in basic education, but little in vocational education. It Has made some achievements. Vocational education is the comprehensive one based on skills, which is connected with vocational kowledge, skills and attitudes. Vocational school students will be trained to be a all-round high skilled laborers.Guided by the theories of Constructivism and Action orientation, the paper integrates the mind map into vocational education teaching field and carry out the applied research on actional orientation. In the course of teaching, students are emphasised and focused on the changes of their thinking way and behaviors. The mind map concentrates on key competencies, harmonious development of emotions, attitudes and values and make students improve in all ways. The paper hopes to find an effective way to fit vocational school students and to offer implications in intergrating the mind map into vocational education teaching and promoting studens'all-round development.The paper has three parts.Part one is a brief introduction. It includes definitions, purposes and significance of the research, literature review and research approches.Part two is the breif review of the mind map and its application. It refers to the origin of the mind map, features, elements, procedures of drawing, rules and strategies and the applications at home and abroad.Part three is the main part of this paper. It discusses the theory and practice basis of the application of the mind map in vocational education, predication of application, application results and outlook. The paper points out the overall idea and general principle. It explains from the follwing aspects: patterns for teaching and learning, teaching process, teaching evaluation and educational technology. The paper sums up the application results of the mind map in four aspects by case study and questionaire analysis. The paper offers us a renew cognition of the mind map, rehinks the application limits . Meanwhile, the study directions in the future is also pointed out.
