In the 21st century, with the highly development of spiritual and material civilization and the continuous updating of knowledge, the new age calls for talents of knowledge type as well as of innovative and compound type. Quality-oriented education becomes the fundamental way out to promote the all-round development of students, so higher requirements are made by the society of current education. Therefore, both educational institutes and educators should attach importance to the cultivation of students'knowledge and ability to realize the all-round develop students, which demands the combination of curricular with extra-curricular teaching. Strengthening the extra-curricular teaching which is in accordance with the ideas and requests of new curriculum reform and quality-oriented education will be beneficial to the development of students'knowledge and ability as well as the cultivation of innovative spirit and cooperative awareness and building sound emotion, attitude and values. However, at present the situation of"first curricular, second extra-curricular"still exists. As a result, the author made a survey on the status quo of extracurricular biological teaching in high school to look into the problems, find out the reasons and explore the measures with an aim to put forward some valuable suggestions on carrying out effective quality-oriented education and positively boost the reform of biological teaching.
