With the rapid development of the IT industry all over the globe, the whole world has stepped into a society of information and a world of networks.(from the world economic forum in 1997).According to the latest data from the Internet, over 70%of the information is in English. It is accepted that English has become an essential tool of gaining information around the world. Besides, English has been highly demanded by different kinds of occupations. It is a great advantage for hunting for a good job to have a good knowledge of English, so the importance of English in education has become more and more obvious. In"English Curriculum Criterion","Stimulating and fostering the students'interest of learning English, helping the students build self-confidence, training the students to have good learning habits and effective strategies, developing the students'competence of autonomic learning and team spirit, etc. is in the most important position."As a special educational teacher, the students who we are facing are orphans. They haven't got good results in English because of the complex experience and strong character.This research is based on the situation of orphan students'English study, covering the questions of what motivation is, what leads to the lack of the students'motivation to learn English,the factors that influence the motivation,and how to train and motivate students to learn English. It is hoped that this research can let more people pay attention to orphans'growth, to look for a suitable method to teach them, and to let these children have the feeling of family, so that their body and mind can obtain a healthy development, and that their personality can be perfectly formed.The thesis consists five chapters: In chapter 1, the author takes homeless student situation as the research background and presents the significance of the research. In chapter 2, the author introduces the current academic motivation theory. In chapter 3, the author illustrates the research design: With the motive theory as the foundation, the author will use a questionnaire, classroom observation and interviews to locate and analysis the factors that may influence homeless junior school students'foreign language study. In chapter 4, according to the data from the questionnaire, observation and interview, the author analyses the factors that actually influence the homeless junior school students'foreign language study results. And in chapter 5, the author obtains the conclusion of the research, and points out this research's implications and limitation.
