Olympiad in Informatics is the product of computer knowledge becoming popular in primary and secondary school. The students who have the ample force and computer specialty will be encouraged and develop their abilities through Olympiad in Informatics. Olympiad in Informatics belongs to the game which need intelligence and computer application ability. Students are required to master algorithm, data structure, number theory, graph theory, the combination of mathematics and discrete mathematics. In order to solve this kind of difficult problem, students need to have very strong comprehensive ability. High school learning task is very onerous. How to carry out the Olympiad in Informatics, and let students exercise in the program design, even obtain excellent results, has become the problem that information counseling teachers need to be addressed urgently. The author has already instructed Olympiad in Informatics for 10 years and achieved very good results, also accumulated a lot of experience in counseling. The competition experience introduced in this article will provide reference to counseling teachers.This article firstly introduces the general situation of Informatics. Informatics provides excellent platform for the training of the computer specialty students. It's a part of quality education in the school. Then it discusses the standard and method to select suitable contestants for information science contest. It also elaborates choosing of teaching materials, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, contest content and arrangement, competition training, which is to train contestants comprehensively. The characteristics of information science contest determine the runner must have divergent thinking ability to gain success in competition. It requires our counseling must use the task-driven inquiry teaching method. It proves that the effect of inquiry teaching method is distinct in many years of counseling practice. This article discusses the suitable inquiry teaching model in information counseling. Then point out the relation and difference which is used in ordinary classroom. Finally are two typical example of inquiry teaching. Coaches should pay attention to the overall development of contestants. Not only lay a solid foundation of knowledge and programming skills to contestants, but also foster the innovation ability and the indomitable will to contestants. At the same time encourage contestants to set a great goal.
