After the executive of Geography Curriculum Standard for Ordinary High School (experiment), new curriculum reform started to spread out all over the country. According to curriculum reform theory, high-school geography textbook has shifted from One-Guideline-One-Text to One-Guideline-Multiple-Text, and various versions of geography textbooks have emerged. At the same time, one of the main ideas in this reform is to strengthen the design of student activities, which became an essential and necessity section in the textbook. Scientific and reasonable designs can help students understanding, memorizing and using new concepts more efficiently; moreover, it can facilitate students in solving realistic problems with geographic thinking. Therefore, the quality of editing for the activity section will directly affect the quality of studying. It is very meaningful and pragmatic of researching the advantages and varieties of different versions of textbooks under the same criterion.Based on previous researches, this paper selects the activity section from PEP (People's Education Press) and HEP (Hunan Education Press) as the objects. It combines the characteristics of geographical activities and research outcomes from other related researchers, and then makes systematic comparisons about form element, target element and function element. The paper has the following four parts:The first part is introduction. It describes the background and status quo; analyzes previous researches from two aspects, which are comparative study and activity study; and provides methodologies and structures of this paper. The second part is theoretical research. It briefly illustrates the theories mentioned in this paper, including curriculum structure theory, humanism curriculum theory and activity design theory. The third part is the data analysis. In this section, the author differentiates the form element, target element and function element and come to conclusions in the two different textbook versions.Fourth, the author makes suggestions from the aspects of textbook editing and usage of textbook based on the results of previous comparisons. Fifth part is case study. It emphasizes several cases about efficient use of activity sections in the two books from the angle of geography teachers. This paper is the interim results from comparisons of activity section in high-school geography textbook. Hopefully this paper can be used as a reference and helpful resource for related questions for researchers, textbook editors and teachers in the future.
