| Reading has always been the most important channel of English learning and reading comprehension takes up much larger score proportion in the examination. According to the present situation, learners in the middle school acquire the English knowledge by reading materials of textbook. So English teachers begin to emphasize the importance of English reading and pay more attention to their teaching design. However, they always focus on language points and often divide the whole reading material into a series of sentences. They hope that students can master a large number of words and have a skillful knowledge of grammar. But, as a matter of fact, students can not understand completely the whole text only by words and grammar. Because different genres represent different characteristics, therefore it is urgent to teach students how to analyze discourse structures according to different genres. What's more, the themes of materials have a deep effect on students'understanding, so teachers should try their best to rich students'schema.At present, teaching design is a very hot topic of study. According to data analysis, teachers can finish teaching tasks and achieve teaching aims by the excellent teaching design. The genre approach can make students know the characteristics of different genres and get easily the main idea of a text and understand the intention and master the structure of the whole text with ingenious teaching design.At first, the thesis makes use of the methods of classroom observation and interview. The methods can help me to observe and analyze teachers and students of Xin Xiang No.3 Senior High School in order to learn teaching methods in the English reading teaching and know the students'difficulties. And then the thesis uses the method of teaching experiment. It describes the text characters and text structures of narrative texts, expositive texts and argumentative texts that can often be seen in English materials of senior high schools. At the same time, the writer designs four teaching plans according to the different genres and carries out the teaching process in Class 6 and Class 8 of Grade 2 in Xin Xiang No.3 Senior High School. After that, thesis takes advantage of the analysis to test papers and knows the genres and themes of the reading materials and counts the students'scores.Through the analysis above, the genre approach can help senior high school students to master the different characters of the different genres and the structures of different texts and help them to improve the reading competence.This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the whole study, which mainly introduces the status of reading, background of study, the structure of the thesis. The second one introduces the research of reading teaching at home and abroad and then mainly reviews the connected theories, including the model of reading, the essence of reading competence and the genre approach. In chapter three, the writer represents questions, objects and methods of study. In chapter four, on the one hand, the writer inspects teaching methods and observes the behavior and reaction of students. On the other hand, the writer does an interview to master the reading difficulties of students. What'more, the writer analyzes the teaching material published by People's Education Press and counts the number of different genres and designs the teaching plans. In chapter five, the writer represents the findings and significance of the study and gives several suggestions to English teachers for teaching design. |
