| Genre-based teaching approach is a kind of teaching method based on the genre and genre analysis theory. It studies the genre structure of text and applies it into classroom reading teaching. Students are able to get an overall understanding of the discourse by the guidance of mastering the genre knowledge. The English textbooks for senior high school and the articles of reading comprehension in the college entrance examination have obvious characteristics of genre. So it provides the possibility for teachers to use genre-based teaching approach in ordinary English reading class. This paper focuses on the English reading teaching in senior high school, especially discusses the use and effect of genre-based teaching approach in senior high English reading instruction.This paper adopts the method of literature, questionnaire, text analysis, case design and experiment. The genre and genre-based teaching approach are the theoretical support of the study; The students in senior high school of Xiangyuan county in Shanxi province serve as the object of the questionnaire survey, from which the author finds the problems and difficulties in English reading. It makes the upholstery for the genre-based teaching approach; The author selects two classes to carry out the experiment and checks out the effect of genre-based teaching approach in senior high English reading instruction.The study finds that through the genre-based teaching approach in reading teaching, the students are more interested in English reading. And they can make preliminary judgment about the genre of the text and use appropriate strategies in reading. The students form a better reading habits and the reading ability is promoted at the same time. Therefore, it is necessary for senior high English teachers to use the genre-based teaching approach in reading teaching. But students cannot apply the genre-based teaching approach into English reading proficiently. Teachers should pay attention to the following two points in the process of using genre-based teaching approach: firstly, teachers need adopt the schematic structure of the genre in reading teaching, but not the traditional grammar translation teaching form; Secondly, it needs a long systematic learning process on the application of genre-based teaching approach. Thus, students can gradually enhance the ability of English reading. |
