| English writing is always an important skill for foreign language learners to master. It is also the focal and difficult point that English teachers face in their teaching process. As the reforms in education are pushed forward, English teachers in junior high school pay more attention to the improvement of students' English writing competence and the efficacy of English writing class. However, the effect of the English writing class is not always satisfying. Most teachers adopt product approach in their classes. As a result, students have low motivation and negative attitudes towards writing and they are not good at using effective writing strategies. Their English writing competence improves slowly.The research aims at exploring an effective method of teaching English writing in junior high school. It is carried out under process approach, in a common junior high school in Nanjing, and on Oxford material, Fun with English.The research lasts for five months. In it, process approach is used in experimental class while product approach in control class. The whole research is based on questionnaire, experiment, direct observation and interview. And it is divided into two periods, the testing period and the adjusting period. The specific teaching designs are improved in adjusting period according to the test and study of the first period, in order to improve the efficacy of process writing class. The research is designed to test the following three hypotheses:First, in junior high school, process approach is more effective than product approach in developing students' abilities to communicate and create.Secondly, in junior high school, process approach is more effective than product approach in stimulating students' interest of English writing, mastering writing strategies and improving their English writing ability.Thirdly, in English writing teaching, process approach can be used better by improving the specific teaching designs.Though evidences show that process approach is more effective than product approach in elementary English teaching class, English teachers should study and design their classes and use process approach more effectively. |
