New Interpretation Of The Role Of University Teachers Based On Student Life Development

Guided by the principle that education should be oriented towards development and students'life development, quality-oriented education and life-oriented education have come into the sight of college educators. However, the traditional education principles, which have dominated Chinese education for hundreds of years, and the changed values, which is influenced by the modern market economy, lead to the lack of awareness of one's own identity among college teacher. Some of them cling to the traditional education principles, paying no attention to students' "life", and others even take teaching as a job for money, leaving the responsibility behind.Traditionally, teachers should conform to the principles:propagating doctrines, teaching knowledge, and dispelling doubts. How can they achieve development and creation under the principle of developing the students' life in the modern colleges?Life is both the start line and the aim of education. College education pursues students' free development and the realization of their life values in the society, with its ultimate goal of attaining happiness of life. College teachers, as the executants of this goal, realize the values and meaning of their life by helping students find their happiness. In order to meet the requirements from the society, college education, and students' development, college teachers should add new meanings to the teacher's role, and develop both students' and teachers' life to gain happiness, the true meaning of life.Traditional college education focuses on universality instead of individuality, on knowledge instead of procedure, on teaching instead of educating, on learning instead of life, and on money instead of responsibility. We hold a modern college teacher should spare no efforts to discover students'potential and cultivate their creativity to help them succeed to the beauty of knowledge, possess the happiness from procedure and goal, and grow to be a more responsible living creature.College teachers' development needs their introspection, as well as the social environment. Although the course of life is very long, it is quite short for every individual. The real meaning of life lies in the process of pursuing the meaning of life:a real life consists of both pain and happiness.
