Pilgrimage (Journey) to the West is one of the four famous classic literary novelsin Chinese fiction history, and it is a typical mythic novel. It is about the legendarypilgrimage of Sun WuKong and the other four monks to India. During their journey,they encounter a lot of difficulties set by different kinds of beings, such as demonsand animal spirits, monsters and even kind hearted people in the mortal world. Theybravely fight with the demons, monsters, and animal-spirits with enough Taoistspiritual merit with the help of heavenly beings and fairies. In the process, SunWuKong plays very important role. They go across mountains and fields, monasterycaves, evil kingdoms. And they been through Thrice Defeats the Skeleton Demon,conquer the Red Boy, extinguish the Mountain of Flames, and vanquish the demonsall the way long. After overcoming the81tribulations, they finally finish the task ofprotecting Tang Xuanzang for his Pilgrimage to the West for Buddhist Sutra. It is nothard to find out that there are different kinds of immortal and holly spirits, monstersand devils, evil caves and kingdoms that worth to be paid attention to. And theweapons they are using are also important part of the novel which have specialfeatures.On the basis of the Uyghur translated version of the novel, the author willanalyze those special names and their origin mentioned above, which may include themethods and characteristics of the translating work. It should be noted that whentranslating those special names, the interpreter should take some elements intoconsideration such as the history, culture, and religion of the source language. Andsuitable skills and methods should be used in order to keep the cultural connotation ofthe original text while reducing the obstacles for the readers within the process.The paper firstly introduces the research background at home and abroad, andthe purpose and significance of the study. The main content of the research definedinto three parts. First, the author classifies the names of devils and monsters, and analyzes the origin of these names in "Pilgrimage (Journey) to the West". Second, theauthor gives some explanation on the important translation theories, and then analyzesthe methods used in translating the "Pilgrimage (Journey) to the West" to Uyghur.Third, the author mentions some characteristics of the names translated to Uyghur,and gives some opinions on some specific translated names.
