Rock painting is the picture chiseled or coated on the surface of rocks. From the beginning of creation, rock painting will always be exposed to natural environment, so it will suffer wind blowing, sun burning, and rain drenching, as well as weathering at different degrees for different rocks. Therefore, the pictures of rock painting will be blurring. Subjectively speaking, the same picture can be polished, chiseled, engraved, or drawn by people at different periods, or the rock painting on the same piece of rock can be added layer upon layer, so that the designs and figures of many rock paintings cannot be accurately distinguished. There are rare underground archaeological remains to be found surround the rock paintings. In light of the above mentioned factors, it is hard to distinguish the era that the rock painting is created from the rock painting, so the archaeological dating method for rock painting need to open or find a new path. There are two new archaeological dating methods in terms of rock painting:first, make use of high technology, which is mainly used for the dating of coated rock paintings, but with many restrictions for the chiseled rock painting; second, through analyzing the pictures of rock painting, as well as the pictures of surrounding unearth remains, including content and style, it will analyze the inheritance and interaction of these two aspects. However, the second method will provide slur and blurring conclusions.Aiming at the archeological dating method (the second method in the above paragraph) for the rock paintings of tiger in Yinshan Mountains, and by referring to archaeological typology, this paper classifies the picture of tigers on all the bronzes in northern part of ancient China from the perspective of typology. Therefore, by taking this as reference and contrast, it can more accurately distinguish the eras for tiger rock paintings in Yinshan Mountains.
