Translation is a language activity, in which language must be involved. Recently, it is very popular to use linguistic theory to solve translation problem. Register theory is one of the most important theories of systemic-functional grammar, which was put forward by Halliday, M.A.K. In fact, "register" may trace to Malinowski, B.K. and Firth, J.R. They all contributed to the study of context, but can not analyze in detail. Later, Halliday and some linguists developed register theory on the basis of language, society and people. The purpose of Register theory is to uncover the general principles which govern the language variation in different situational types. It studies concrete language variables under the concrete context of situation and context of culture, and integrates ideational meaning, interpersonal meaning and textual meaning organically to explain the nature and use of language. The thesis applies register theory to the translation of English tourist brochure. It mainly analyzes register features of source language (SL) and the realization of register equivalence between source language and target language. The correct conversion between source language and target language can not be ignored. Tourist language has its own language features, so the choice of vocabularies should be given enough attention. That is to say, translation should realize field equivalence. If field equivalence is realized, both meaning and the flavor contained in original language can be conveyed. The main purpose of English tourist brochure is to introduce sight spots, so translation also emphasizes the tenor of source language. In fact, the equivalence of field and tenor is very important in translating English tourist brochure. The thesis suggests that translators should give much emphasis on register variables in translation. In addition, the results of translation will exert influence on readers or potential consumers, because they may react differently according to different translation. It is well known that translation should be faithful, expressive and elegant to the original language. So the premise of the purpose is to analyze register features of source language and apply it to translation.
