During the long-term cultural exchange in history, Chinese culture has brought a significant influence on ROK's (Republic of Korea) culture, especially on language. Before the "Hunminjeongeum"(The Correct/Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People') was implemented, Hanzi/Chinese was the only official language used in South Korea. Due to the absent of native written system and the long time Hanzi/Chinese using tradition, words that derived from Chinese account for more than55%in Korean. Therefore, the using of Chinese-source words (Hanja) as a supplementary method in teaching Chinese as a foreign language has been frequently applied. However, Chinese and Korean, after all, belong to different phyla and both languages form their own vocabulary and grammar systems. Different historical elements and social factors were also integrated into these two languages in order to adapt to the trends of society better.It was widely acknowledged that second language acquisition was greatly affected by the learners'first language. Because of the high proportion of Chinese-source words (Hanja), Korean learners experience more advantages and disadvantages in their Chinese learning process, for example, the inadequate understanding of the differences between Chinese-source words (Hanja) in Korean and Chinese words always lead to the inaccurate or inappropriate expressions in Korean learners'Chinese speaking process. From this perspective, the present thesis intends to set out a comparative study of homographs and synonyms in Korean Chinese-source Words (Hanja) and Chinese. Researching materials are the six kinds of Chinese textbooks of the7th education courses used by the South Korean high schools. This article aims to bring some positive influences in guiding Korean students learning Chinese.The thesis consists three parts beside introduction and conclusion parts. The author gives the brief introduction of the basic issues of this research in introduction part, including background, purpose, research methods, scope of the study and the current finds.Next part is mainly about the comparative analysis of the homographs in Chinese and Korean Chinese-source Words (Hanja). According to the classification of monosyllabic and multi-syllabic words, the analysis will be carried on monosyllabic homographs with similar meanings, monosyllabic homographs with partial similar meanings, monosyllabic homographs with different meanings, multi-syllabic homographs with similar meanings, multi-syllabic homographs with partial similar meanings and multi-syllabic homographs with different meanings six aspects.The third part is the comparative analysis of synonyms with total similar meanings and synonyms with partial similar meanings in Chinese and Korean.The fourth part is the comparative analysis of reverse synonyms.The final part is the conclusion.The author hopes this article could help Korean learners have a good grasp of the differences between Chinese-source Words (Hanja) in Korean and Chinese. The author also hopes that the findings of this thesis could help Korean learners avoid the negative language transfer of their mother-tongue as well as help Chinese learners in their Korean studying.
