Culture is an organic integration, a dynamic concept, which reflects the development of the history. It not only has the overall, regional and national features, but also has the characteristic of the age. As a genre of brightly existing national instrumental music, Zheng- music has been deeply imprinted and affected by the social, economic, and systematic factors during different phases of national inheritances.Zheng was spread to Japan in the Tang dynasty and has become one of the most important national instruments of Japan. "Same source yet different forms ". There are many differences between the Chinese and Japanese Zheng art under the influence of different national inheritances. The inheritance of Japanese Koto music pays attention to maintaining the tradition, respects the history consistently and continuously and willingly accepts othe cultures in an initiative and comprehensive way. On the contray, Chinese inheritance focuses on zheng music's improvement and development. It has the features of burstiness and rescue, and accepts othe cultures in a passive and selective way. This thesis, based on the different national inheritances, discusses the similarities and differences of Zheng art of China and Japan in the twentieth century in the following three aspects:the creation of Zheng music, the reform of its instruments and its cultural communication. It's hoped this thesis finally gain some experiences in order to establish a Zheng musical pattern with a Chinese significance.
