Comparative Study On The Narrative Between The Legends Of Tang Dynasty And Song And Yuan Folk Literature

The common ground and difference in narrative subject, narrative point of view and narrative time are stressly studied on the legend of Tang Dynasty and Song and Yuan story-telling scripts in this thesis and primary cause about similarities and differences between them are analyzed also.The legend of Tang Dynasty inherited the tradition of History biography within persuing truth. Narrative subject is called"genuine author", that is to say, the writers involved into text with true identity, acted as certain narrative function. However, narrative subject in Song and Yuan story-telling scripts was"narrator", storyteller involved into text as narrator, expressed one self's thoughts indirectly making use of commenting characters and affairs in the course of narrating.The legend of Tang Dynasty applied finite point of view more and more perfect except for adopting the third person's omniscient point of view. The first person's finite point of view in Tang Dynasty told story with the tone of"I"or"me", integrated narrator and experience. Story-telling scripts'narrative point of view was determined by storyteller identity oneself. So it adopted omniscient point of view to make it rule the whole narration. Works in the legend of Tang Dynasty attracted audience ,which used not omniscient point of view but finite point of view and intersected and transited both them. Narrative point of view in Song and Yuan story-telling scripts basically adopted the third person's omniscient point of view, but sometimes storyteller had a mind to control narrative point of view and adopt finite point of view for mysterious effects.The management about narrative time in the legend of Tang Dynasty adopted mostly the technique of abbreviation and ellipsis to improve narrative efficiency. The legend of Tang Dynasty applied"exhibition"to embody in the following aspects of dialogue, scenery, situation discription, portrait, motion discription and innermost being movement.Narrative time in Song and Yuan story-telling scripts was based on object time's clue, looked chronological order as basic means, narrated story according to script time (story time) step by step. But in the micro level, Song and Yuan folk literature compensated, ruched and regulated the disadvantages and humdrum through time variation, took narrative strategy of flash forward, narration interspersed with flash backs and supplemented in order to"order and transfer"supplement each other and unified each other harmoniously, so it showed time process with distinct and clear.
