When teaching Korean students, Chinese teachers often encounter hardships: Why do Korean students always mishear words for similar words, that are hardly ever used by Chinese people? For example the us age of words like /pingri/ (daily, every day). This is due to the unique function of Chinese characters. Korean students often tend to search for resembling pronunciations in their own mother tongue when studying Chinese vocabulary. Besides it is especially hard for Korean students to distinguish between close equivalent expressions and ambivalent words with several, often very different meanings. These Chinese words often have extremely similar meanings or in the latter case the same characters but differ in their grammatical use. Korean students often lack the ability to use these words. In order to get to an better understanding of the phenomena and adopted tactics by Korean students, I will describe and analyse them in this thesis in four main approaches:Chapter 1: I will introduce the methods adopted in the survey handed to Korean students of Chinese. Based on the poll results I will furthermore present a statistics and summary of the participants.Chapter 2: While paying special attention to the role of Chinese characters, I will describe the unique specifics of Korean students and I will deepen my analysis on their ways to express in Chinese.Chapter 3: I will summarise and present the final results and analyse the emphasises, difficulties and different types of vocabulary.Chapter 4: I will introduce methods on how to improve the understanding of close equivalent expressions and ambivalent words with several meanings.Chapter 5: I will propose special and practical instruction methods for Korean students with consideration to their specific needs and difficulties.
